WINTHROP – The WSDOT has declared that the North Cascades Highway is closed as of Friday evening, due to heavy snowfall and risk of avalanche danger.

The closure is in place between milepost 134, east of Diablo Lake, and milepost 171 at Silver Star Gate. DOT crews will assess conditions on Monday and at that time may determine to close the North Cascades Highway for the season. The highway typically closes this time of year due to high avalanche danger and hazardous road conditions, reopening sometime in the spring.
