This note was recently sent to state legislator Jim Walsh :

Jim, I work for [a SW WA school district]. What the kids are going through and how they are being treated is astonishing. Today was my first day back in person with the district since pre-Covid. I watched a kindergartener cry out of frustration and confusion which is common for the first few days. The difference today was instead of him getting the hugs and sincere attention and affection he needed in that moment he was barked at more than once about pulling his mask up! Not the worst part, sadly, he worked himself up to the point he felt he was going to be sick and was trying to communicate that through sobs and was again barked at to pull up his mask.
I yelled at the staff member from across the room to get him to a trash can as he was going to throw up. He did. No compassion, no emotion, no sincerity whatsoever. My heart broke for that boy and for his mom that would have lost her mind to see her son so distraught.
This isn’t right.
My first day back and I don’t know that I can bring myself to go another day. It’s wrong, all of it is wrong. I truly feel our kids are being abused by these mandates and restrictions. Instead of hearing the giggles and whispers through the halls today and seeing the smiles and giving high fives and hugs I got to watch kids be masked and muzzled walking 3ft apart (measured and marked) and look at the ground.
How? How has it been allowed to get this far out of control? If parents had ANY idea what school really was for their kids, I sincerely think they’d keep them home.
